Content Rights: Basics of EMA Avail Delivery

Master the foundations of content rights submission through the EMA Avail and get your titles live faster

~16 min read October 28, 2026

Your content rights tell Prime Video what to sell, where, when to make it available, and at what price. Without accurate content rights, Prime Video cannot publish your content. Every title you deliver needs a content rights submission. This submission is your Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) Avails file. It contains licensing terms that authorize Prime Video to offer your content in specific territories, formats, and time windows.

Getting your content rights right on the first submission means faster go-live and fewer support tickets.

You can also submit content rights through the Prime Video Avails API. Visit the Prime Video Avails API documentation for integration details and field specifications.

Content Rights Fields at a Glance

Your EMA Avails file contains fields that control every aspect of your title’s availability. Each field serves a specific purpose in the publishing workflow. The tables below show you which fields are required, optional, or conditionally required for each content type. Use these as your reference when building or reviewing your avails.

Publishing Requirements

All fields fall into one of four categories. Understanding these categories helps you prioritize your submission and avoid delays.

Category

Definition

Required

Your title will not publish without these fields for the applicable content type. Providing only required fields results in a basic customer experience.

Enhanced

These fields are not required for publishing. Providing them improves discoverability, placement, and the customer experience.

Conditional

This field is required only when specific conditions are met. The condition is noted in the field description. If the condition applies to your title, the field becomes required.

Not Used

Amazon does not use this field. You can leave it blank.

Core Identification Fields

These fields are required on every avail row, regardless of content type.
