Publishing Requirements

All artwork you deliver for Prime Video falls into one of two categories. Knowing the difference helps you prioritize what to deliver first.

Category

What It Means For You

Required

Your title will not publish without these asset for the applicable content type. Providing only these assets will result in a suboptimal customer experience.

Enhanced

These assets are expected to provide a better customer experience. Without it, your title may display a fallback image or lose discoverability.

⚠️ Important: Deliver all Required assets before expecting your title to go live. Enhanced Experience assets improve the customer experience, so include them. For example, episodic artwork is now a required asset, although not a publishing blocker. If not provided, our system falls back to the season cover when episodic artwork is missing — a suboptimal experience that replaces unique, episode-specific artwork with a repetitive roll-down of the same season cover.

All Artwork Types at a Glance

Use this table to identify every artwork type, its publishing status, and its specifications. Deliver the right asset and avoid ingestion failures.

Universal File Specifications

These requirements apply to all artwork types unless noted otherwise. Meeting these specs prevents ingestion failures before they happen.

No other formats are accepted.

Color Space

CMYK and other color spaces are not supported.

Maximum File Size

Title Art files must be under 1 MB.

Aspect Ratio

Incorrect ratios cause ingestion failure.

Localization

Per intended language locale

Provide original-language or localized artwork for the intended territory. For example, pt-BR is required for Brazil.

Global and Region-Specific Delivery

Understanding how Prime Video handles global vs. region-specific artwork helps you reach more customers with the right content.

Global Artwork Delivery

Global delivery is the standard requirement. Global artwork delivery includes a language-LOCALE value but does not include a Region value.

With global artwork, customers see content matched to their UI language preference. For example, a customer in Canada with Spanish set as their UI language sees Spanish artwork. This works because the artwork was delivered with Spanish in language-LOCALE and without a Region value.

Region-Specific Artwork Delivery

Region-specific delivery is an exception for specific use cases only. It includes both a language-LOCALE value and a Region value.

⚠️ Important: You must also provide at least one global artwork delivery per image type (box art, cover art, and poster art) for Seasons and Movies.

If you provide a Region value, it blocks the global artwork in that region. If you omit it, the artwork is eligible globally.

Accepted Use Cases for Region-Specific Delivery

  1. Compliance versions, such as omitting cigarettes in India
  2. Region-specific originals branding, when allowed

Not Accepted

  1. Region-specific extraneous text
  2. Calls-to-action or marketing callouts

Language-LOCALE and Region Field Behavior

Use this table to understand how each field affects artwork delivery.

Field

Required?

What It Does

Language-LOCALE

Required

Identifies the language of the artwork. For example, pt-BR signifies Brazilian Portuguese.

Region

Exception

Identifies a specific territory. If provided, it blocks the global artwork in that region. If omitted, the artwork is eligible globally.

Right-to-Left Language Requirements

Customers with their user interface language set to Arabic or Hebrew see overlay metadata and text on the right side of the display page. If you deliver right-to-left (RTL) hero artwork for these languages, use the correct language codes.

Correct RTL Artwork

Correct RTL Artwork

Incorrect RTL artwork (text overlays obscuring part of the image)

📌 Note: The only acceptable left-to-right (LTR) language codes are listed in the table above.

Delivering Artwork via MMC (Preferred Method)

Delivery via MMC Asset Manifest (MMC) is the preferred method for submitting artwork references. It is simpler to reference localized artwork in MMC. Unlike MEC, MMC has no reliance on title metadata.

You can use the MMC to ingest both original-language and localized artwork files by providing purpose, language, and region values.

MMC Partial Image Delivery

You can reference artwork files independently of other assets. You can also include them as part of a complete asset package.

  1. Partial MMCs should only contain Inventory objects for assets included in the updated package.
  2. Only declare Presentations when they contain assets present in the MMC Inventory and in the package.
  3. When referencing artwork assets only, exclude Presentations from the MMC.
  4. The ALID is the only ID that must match between an initial package and an updated package.

MMC Variant for Artwork

MMC Variant for Artwork

How to Identify a Variant in Your MMC

You must have a default version of the artwork available for personalized variants to display. For example, if you submit en-US cover variants, Prime Video requires a default en-US cover asset. Deliver this default in the past or in the same MMC as the variant delivery.

The same editorial requirements and technical specs apply as for Cover, Poster, and Hero art.
Variant artwork references are accepted only via MMC. Use either partial or full delivery. MEC references are not accepted for personalized art.

Delivering Artwork via MEC

MEC is primarily used for title metadata such as synopsis, actors, and ratings. It can also communicate artwork references.

When you use MEC for artwork delivery, an ArtReference field within the LocalizedInfo section must be present. This lets you reference multiple pieces of artwork for a single title. It also communicates metadata such as resolution, purpose, and language.

Key Rules for MEC Artwork Delivery

  1. Language, filename, and purpose must be included within each LocalizedInfo section.
  2. The language-locale for your artwork should align with the localized title metadata in a given LocalizedInfo section.
  3. If you need artwork in a language that does not match the main metadata language, enter a second LocalizedInfo block.
  4. The second LocalizedInfo block requires TitleDisplayUnlimited and Summary400 fields plus your ArtReference entries.

MEC Partial Image Delivery

You can use MEC to deliver artwork independent of title metadata. Add an md:Profile that relaxes parsing validations.
For sample XML files for partial MEC artwork delivery, visit the Sample File Repository.

📌 How to Indicate Image-Only Delivery: Use the profile value CM-IMAGE-1 to indicate an image-only MEC delivery.

Prime Video will not parse title metadata from the file when this profile is provided.

MEC Schema Errors

Knowing what causes common MEC schema errors helps you fix them before they slow down your delivery.

Error Message

Cause and How to Fix It

More than one instance of LocalizedInfo is provided for the same language.

There are duplicate LocalizedInfo blocks with the same type and region. Remove the duplicate block.

If providing Region values, one LocalizedInfo element for that language must apply for all territories (no Region override).

There is no region-less block for the language. Add a LocalizedInfo block for that language without a Region value.

Prime Video Policy

Prime Video requires that all content assets meet defined standards and specifications.

If you fail to provide an asset or deliver one that does not meet quality requirements, Prime Video may source corrected or missing assets on your behalf.

You can submit your own corrected assets at any time. When you do, Prime Video removes the sourced assets and replaces them with yours. Customers see only your studio-provided files as long as they comply with Prime Video standards.

Quick Tips

Use this checklist to confirm your artwork delivery is complete and accurate before submitting.

  • Deliver all Basic Experience assets before expecting your title to go live.
  • Use JPG or PNG format with RGB color space for all artwork.
  • Keep all files under 10 MB. Keep Title Art files under 1 MB.
  • Make sure aspect ratios are exact to prevent ingestion failures.
  • Provide localized artwork for any territory where your title metadata is localized.
  • Upload artwork files to Aspera or S3 and include references in your MEC or MMC.
  • Submit all artwork with the correct purpose value for proper placement.
  • Use MMC for simpler localized artwork referencing without title metadata dependency.
  • For region-specific artwork, always include at least one global delivery per image type.
  • For personalized (variant) artwork, always ensure a default version exists first.
